B&W locomotive photo of the Wm. Crooks engine built in 1861 by Smith & Jackson of Paterson, NJ for use on the Minnesota & Pacific RR. The 4-4-0 was a wood burner since coal was not readily available in the midwest. Named after the railroad's chief engineer, the engine is currently on display at the Lake Superior Railroad Museum. My Dad photographed it at the 1939 NY World's Fair.
