Black and white steam locomotive photo of the Reading Railroad steam engine number 117 streamlined in stainless steel for "Crusader" service. Sister to #118, these engines were streamlined in 1937 to compete against other railroads for passenger revenue during the Art Deco rage of the era. This scene depicts the 117 along side the 833 of blue comet fame. The demands for metal during WW2 all but eliminated most of these trains. Serviced in Jersey City where my Dad captured this scene in the late 1930's.
